Outdoor ceiling light, cheap and essential

The outdoor ceiling light provides visibility and safety under covered and semi-open spaces. Fixed above the entrance door or even on a wall if you opt for an outdoor ceiling light for terrace, this light is part of the essential lighting equipment while being available in several models, for example, the ceiling light motion detector.

Is it really important to install an outdoor ceiling light?

By installing a ceiling light, for example, on your porch, above the entrance door, the lighting will contribute to the security of the premises. Two practical cases:

  • It's dark, your doorbell rings, but you're not expecting anyone: turn on your ceiling light to see who's on the other side before you open (or not!).
  • You come home late from a party or work and usually have trouble finding your keys in the dark. The LED motion sensor ceiling light will automatically turn on to help you see more clearly.

Is it better to buy a ceiling lamp with motion detector or without?

Security is priceless, so the option with a motion detector (different from the presence detector) is perfect to be warned immediately in case of passage and deter intruders.

It can also be very useful if you tend to forget to turn off the outsidelight...

What are the safety standards for an outdoor ceiling spotlight?

All lighting fixtures intended for outdoor use, whether electric or solar, are subject to strict safety standards, a topic covered in our blog post "IP rating in detail".

In our online store, use the filter on the left side of your screen to choose the right resistance according to the outdoor elements specific to your living area. The IP rating is composed of two numbers that can be read separately:

  • The first number corresponds to the tightness of the luminaire to solid bodies, it goes from 1 to 6 ;
  •  The second number corresponds to its impermeability to liquid bodies, it goes from 1 to 9

A sliding scale:

  • The higher the first number, the stronger the protection against solid intrusion;
  • The higher the second number, the stronger the protection against liquid intrusion

Example with IP69 protection rating:

  • The first number (6) corresponds to the maximum dust tightness of the luminaire;
  • The second number (9) indicates that the luminaire is protected to the maximum extent against water jets

Good to know

These standards also apply to bathroom fixtures!
